Learning From A Child ~~ A Simple Prayer~~

Good morning and happy Sunday, my favorite day of the week! We are at 25 degrees this morning with a bit of wind, not at all tolerable to sit out and chat with my heavenly Father, so I am behind the glass in the warmth of my home, window blind open wide enjoying seeing the snow sitting gracefully on the grape vine on my back fence, the sun has decided to take a break today so we are under gloomy skies. Gloom in the sky but not in my heart, it is filled with the light of Christ and I pray that yours is as well!
In prayer this morning I asked God to bless each of you with his grace and his love, I prayed my usual morning prayers asking Him to bless all of those suffering pain from sickness, those who are undergoing treatments that seem will never come to an end, those struggling with addiction, depression, financial problems, relationship woes and anyone who is fighting a battle this day. I asked Him for peace in your hearts, calm in your spirits and comfort in your bodies and to continue to allow you knowledge that he is there for you in every situation as long as your door is open and the welcome sign is in full view for him to see! Remember he will not come through a closed door...so throw yours wide open and invite him in:) As I was coming to a close in my prayer I stopped for a moment just to feel his quiet love, to hear his silent whisper and the thank him for loving me, for giving me the gift of voice and the freedom of prayer, as I sat there in total silence I felt the insistance to share with you a story that I came across yesterday, you know me, I love sharing "hearty" storys:)

A Simple Prayer

My son Gilbert was eight years old and had been in Cub Scouts only a short time. During one of his meetings he was handed a sheet of paper, a block of wood and four tires and told to return home and give all to "dad."

That was not an easy task for Gilbert to do. Dad was not receptive to doing things with his son. But Gilbert tried.

Dad read the paper and scoffed at the idea of making a pine wood derby car with his young, eager son. The block of wood remained untouched as the weeks passed.

Finally, mom stepped in to see if I could figure this all out. The project began.

Having no carpentry skills, I decided it would be best if I simply read the directions and let Gilbert do the work. And he did. I read aloud the measurements, the rules of what we could do and what we couldn't do.

Within days his block of wood was turning into a pinewood derby car. A little lopsided, but looking great (at least through the eyes of mom).

Gilbert had not seen any of the other kids cars and was feeling pretty proud of his "Blue Lightning," the pride that comes with knowing you did something on your own.

Then the big night came. With his blue pinewood derby in his hand and pride in his heart we headed to the big race.

Once there my little one's pride turned to humility. Gilbert's car was obviously the only car made entirely on his own. All the other cars were a father-son partnership, with cool paint jobs and sleek body styles made for speed.

A few of the boys giggled as they looked at Gilbert's, lopsided, wobbly, unattractive vehicle. To add to the humility Gilbert was the only boy without a man at his side. A couple of the boys who were from single parent homes at least had an uncle or grandfather by their side, Gilbert had "mom."

As the race began it was done in elimination fashion. You kept racing as long as you were the winner. One by one the cars raced down the finely sanded ramp.

Finally it was between Gilbert and the sleekest, fastest looking car there. As the last race was about to begin, my wide eyed, shy eight year old ask if they could stop the race for a minute, because he wanted to pray. The race stopped.

Gilbert hit his knees clutching his funny looking block of wood between his hands. With a wrinkled brow he set to converse with his Father.

He prayed in earnest for a very long minute and a half. Then he stood, smile on his face and announced, "Okay, I am ready."

As the crowd cheered, a boy named Tommy stood with his father as their car sped down the ramp. Gilbert stood with his Father within his heart and watched his block of wood wobble down the ramp with surprisingly great speed and rushed over the finish line a fraction of a second before Tommy's car.

Gilbert leaped into the air with a loud "Thank you" as the crowd roared in approval.

The Scout Master came up to Gilbert with microphone in hand and asked the obvious question, "So you prayed to win, huh, Gilbert?"

To which my young son answered, "Oh, no sir. That wouldn't be fair to ask God to help you beat someone else. I just asked Him to make it so I don't cry when I lose."

Children seem to have a wisdom far beyond us. Gilbert didn't ask God to win the race, he didn't ask God to fix the outcome, Gilbert asked God to give him strength in the outcome.

When Gilbert first saw the other cars he didn't cry out to God, "No fair, they had a fathers help."

No, he went to his Father for strength.

Perhaps we spend too much of our prayer time asking God to rig the race, to make us number one, or too much time asking God to remove us from the struggle, when we should be seeking God's strength to get through the struggle.

Gilbert's simple prayer spoke volumes to those present that night. He never doubted that God would indeed answer his request. He didn't pray to win, thus hurt someone else, he prayed that God supply the grace to lose with dignity.

Gilbert, by his stopping the race to speak to his Father also showed the crowd that he wasn't there without a "dad," but his Father was most definitely there with him. Yes, Gilbert walked away a winner that night, with his Father at his side.

"Humble" "Haughty" "Heaven" ?????

Good morning and happy Sunday! It is a beautiful morning here in Utah, 63 degrees and a little bit of a breeze, the sky speckled with cotton ball clouds set against a hazy sky. It appears that we might have rain after a while, I so wish that I could lasso the impending rain and send it to all of my friends who are so in need! I will add a prayer to the circle specifically for rain and we will pray over it daily until the blessing is given. Have faith and pray with me many times during the day for relief to the parched lands, trees, and plants if you will!
This morning in prayer as I prayed for each of you, as I prayed for our military to feel the immense love God has for them, the love that we feel for them and the appreciation in our hearts for the sacrifice they make each and every day. I prayed for those suffering illness, those struggling with finances, with broken hearts and with lack of faith. I prayed fervently for peace, comfort and calm in all hearts this morning and that the opportunity would present for you to share a story of God's amazing love. In prayer as I sat there the the words, "humble" "haughty" and "heaven" kept crossing over my heart. I laid my head back and tried to figure out what God was needing me to write about and I could not, I know what the the relationship of these three words is but what did he need me to say? I decided to, as I have many times before, begin writing and I knew that he would at the right time make the message clear to me! To be humble: means: to be meek or modest in behavior, attitude and spirit, not arrogant or prideful...haughty: means: proud of oneself and scornful of others; snobbish; arrogant; disdainful, and of course heaven: a place regarded in various religions as the abode of God and the angels and of the good after death. So why are these three grouped together for me this morning? Each of us knows what we have to do to receive eternal life, what we have to do here on earth to be returned home to heaven when we die. Each of us knows that God does not like haughtiness, being pridefilled is not pleasing to God, each of us knows that when we die, we will go to heaven if we have clung fast to our faith, have accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as our savior and have lived life according to the tenants of the gospel. I know that people do work hard for their possessions, they like to have nice things and the more money they make the more nice things they feel they need. I know that we set standards for ourselves and we like and enjoy the finer things in life, I know also that we can lose everything in the blink of an eye, we can be reduced to nothing in seconds. I know people that work hard every day of their adult life just to make ends meet, they do not have a "pot to pee in" as my dad. I know that being humble is non specific to those who have nothing, if a rich man lives his life according to God's rules he can be a humble man, if a poor man spends his money on impressive things instead of life needs he to can be labled haughty, so I am not trying to say the rich are haughty and the poor are humble, I am trying to say, no matter your situation you should be humble in all things! I think in these words this morning that God needed me to say to you, the reason you have what you have is a blessing, given you by him. If you have been blessed with more dollars than you have cents(sense) then you may need to think about the way in which you are using it, if you have been blessed not to have the headace and the temptations you should be mindful not to covet. We are all from the same place, our spirits once resided in heaven, we were sent down her to gain a physical body, to face trials and tribulations and to deem ourselves worthy of returning home to heaven when we had proved ourselves worthy. Each of us has weaknesses, we all have areas that we need to strengthen and trials in those areas to prove to our Father in heaven that we have passed the test and belong beside him. Each of us will be dealt a hand in the area of our weakness and will have to overcome any problems or variances to show God that we are worthy. Today I say to you, if you are haughty, lay down your snobbery and pick up humility, realize that all the material items you possess will not buy you a ticket to the gate, to you who are humiliated and lustful of material items, let it go and know that if you turn the humiliation from "lack of" into being a humble servant of our Lord, that the ticket will await you. Just be mindful on this sabbath day and each day forward that we are all the same, we are all spirits from heaven and we all are battling our way back. No amount of money in the world will buy the ticket, no amount of bullying will secure you a walk on the golden path...always be thankful for what God has given you, always praise him for the blessing both good and bad, big or little, rich or poor, and keep your eye on the prize...the goal is to walk through the gates being led by our creator, all possessions will be checked at the door. Walk with a humble heart this day, be happy with the "material"  you have achieved here on earth but also be mindful that they are just "things" be mindful not to look upon people that have been more richly blessed than you with malice or with the need for greed. And be mindful that if you have been blessed with an abundance, not to look upon those with less with contempt. Keep your heart in the right place, focus on you and you alone and trust that you are where God needs you to be, that you are being tested in your area of weakness and that you determine if you get to make the trip home, not anyone else....you do. So focus on your actions, your ideas, the quality of you and always on the prize. God bless you with peace in your heart today, more is not always better! I love each of you in Christ and pray for you today! Let the light of Christ shine brightly so that it might be a beacon for someone lost in the storm.

As always please go to the comment section and feel free to let us know of any specific prayer requests you have, we stand ready to lift those in need in prayer many times this day! God is love, he is merciful and if we go through our savior Jesus Christ all of our prayers will be answered.

Please pray with me this night! Let us share God's love!

Good Monday evening all, I pray you had a productive day, that the weather in the south has not been extremely hot and that you are getting all settled in to have a wonderful relaxing evening. Today has been really nice here, we had a high of 88 degrees and a nice breeze all day! Tonight I am having one of my most favorite dinners, a nice salad with fresh squash, cucumber, tomatoes, mandarin oranges, lettuce of course and a yummy creamy poppyseed dressing topped with some crisp fried chicken breast....YUMMY!
I am asking yet again for you to join with me in prayer, I have a sweet friend who is in such need of a miracle, she is suffering so with an infection in her body and has made a bit of progress, but is still in such threat of loss of limbs, please, please, please lift her in prayer! God is amazing, I know he will provide her with what she needs, if it be his will she will be healed by his hands, I know his love is unconditional and that he has such a great plan for her, please pray for her to be filled with calm and comfort this very moment! If you have special needs for prayer, if you wish for us to pray for you, if you would like for us to pray for someone you have needing special prayer, let me know through comment here or on facebook! I know that mass prayer produces miracles and I know that if we stand together, if we stand in faith and in belief that he will answer all of our prayers.
Love to each of you in the name of Christ, amen!
God I come to you with love in my heart, with humility in my soul and with total faith in my spirit, I ask that you comfort each of us this night with peace and calm, that you will like a blanket wrap your arms around us and keep us snuggled in, that you allow us to lay our heads upon you and feel your unconditional love for us. Father let us sleep peacefully with no dreams of suffering or pain, only memories of happy times. Lord I love you and know that you have my best in your plan, that you would never allow me to fall if I stumble and if I come to a cliff you will either catch me or give me wings to soar. May all of my family and friends feel your love and may they have a renewal of faith as they lay their heads down and count their blessings for this day and for all that you allow them. In the name of Jesus I ask these mercies amen!
