Sow your seed, allow it to grow, and see an abundant harvest.

Good Wednesday evening, I pray your day has been filled with only good things. I pray that you have had a day of joy, a day of happiness and a love filled day.

In prayer this evening I laid my head down, closed my eyes and allowed only quiet into my mind, I lifted in prayer all who have come to me with prayer request today asking for healings, for freedom from pain, for the ones who are struggling with loss of loved ones, the ones who are living in fear of losing loved ones due to age or illness and for those who are struggling with children who are taking them to their limits. I continued to pray for those who have been on our prayer list since I began this prayer blog and I prayed as always for you and yours asking for peace, calm, comfort, unconditional love, and understanding. I prayed for my daughter and her unborn child, my grandson "Champ" that they will always feel my love and know that no matter how far away we are from one another that my heart is so full and I know that this great blessing in my life could only have come from God. I asked mercy, grace and love in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Reap what you Sow...

You can't harvest what you don't sow. So plant your desires, gently nurture them, and they will be rewarded with abundance. ~ Vivian Elisabeth Glyck

The story is told of two boys who were walking through a field and found some corn seeds scattered across the ground. They each took one of the seeds home and planted it.
When the first boy didn't see a tiny sprout after the second day, he dug up the seed to see if it had sprouted. Each day he dug up the seed and replanted it, but the corn would not grow. The seed had germinated; yet the boy had not allowed it to maintain contact with the soil, take root, and obtain nutrients. So, it died.

The second boy planted his seed and left it alone. He imagined a tall stalk of corn where he had planted the seed. He waited patiently as rains came and sunshine bathed the ground with warmth. In ten days, a small sprout had broken through the ground, its curled leaves reaching toward the sky.

Achieving any desire, whether large or small, begins with a seed sown in the mind. That seed is the vision of its fulfillment. It also requires the commitment to allow the vision to grow—the faith in God to do His part through storm, rain, and sunshine.

Commitment in daily life allows life's storms to strengthen resolve. Resolve allows us to nurture a new dream, improve an existing dream, or even begin over if necessary. Faith allows acceptance of any circumstance as God's blessing for ultimate growth.

A seed sown must be nourished with faith and belief. When you hold a picture of the final creation in your mind, you hold and maintain faith. You honor God's desire to create something wonderful, and you honor His choice of your hands to help do the job.

How often do we plant the seed of a beautiful dream in the fertile soil of our minds, and then dig it up? What could you achieve if you allowed your seed to grow, continuing to focus your spiritual eyes on the harvest?

If it were not possible for you to achieve a dream, God would not have placed it in your heart and mind. Sow your seed, allow it to grow, and see an abundant harvest.

With his lip quivering and a tear streaming down his cheek he replied, thank you, thank you.

Good evening, as this day quickly comes to an end, I pray that you and yours have had joy this first day of the New Year.

In prayer this evening I thanked God for all of you, for being in my life and for always standing in the gap when I am in need of prayer. I love the fact that I can come to you at any time for personal prayer or for prayer for others and you so eagerly pray with/for me. I am so very blessed to have you in my life. Kind Father in Heaven, give us the kindness to hear with compassion, to offer support, loving comfort, and care. Give us courage to do what is needed, the wisdom to choose what is right and fair. Give us the vision to see what is possible. Give us faith that will help pave the way for a present that is hopeful, a future that is peaceful. Give us a heart to bring joy to each day. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

The Circus

Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus. Finally, there was only one family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. You could tell they didn't have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by- two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly jabbering about the clowns, elephants and other acts they would see that night. One could sense they had never been to the circus before. It promised to be a highlight of their young lives.

The father and mother were at the head of the pack standing proud as could be. The mother was holding her husband's hand, looking up at him as if to say, "You're my knight in shining armor." He was smiling and basking in pride, looking at her as if to reply, "You got that right."

The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded, "Please let me buy eight children's tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus."

The ticket lady quoted the price.

The man's wife let go of his hand, her head dropped, the man's lip began to quiver. The father leaned a little closer and asked, "How much did you say?"

The ticket lady again quoted the price.

The man didn't have enough money.

How was he supposed to turn and tell his eight kids that he didn't have enough money to take them to the circus?

Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand into his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill and dropped it on the ground. (We were not wealthy in any sense of the word!) My father reached down, picked up the bill, tapped the man on the shoulder and said, "Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket."

The man knew what was going on. He wasn't begging for a handout but certainly appreciated the help in a desperate, heartbreaking, embarrassing situation. He looked straight into my dad's eyes, took my dad's hand in both of his, squeezed tightly onto the $20 bill, and with his lip quivering and a tear streaming down his cheek, he replied, "Thank you, thank you, sir. This really means a lot to me and my family."

My father and I went back to our car and drove home. We didn't go to the circus that night, but we didn't go without.

A Prayer not only for myself but for each of YOU!!! I LOVE YOU...

I pray that you have had a great last day of the year, that you are eager to ring in the NEW YEAR with wide eyed anticipation of the wonderful and glorious plans that God has fashioned for each of you. I invite you to join me in prayer this night asking God to be with each of us in the NEW YEAR that we might be closer to him and that our nation begin the feat of standing UNITED in His name.

My New Year's Eve Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

As the dawn of this New Year begins, please bless my family and friends that will be on the roadways tonight, be a shield of protection for them, sheltering them from any harm that may be in their path, remind them to make good decisions and right choices as they celebrate. Please help us to be enriched by every new and precious moment. Draw us closer to you with each sunrise and every sunset. Guide us to know your will. Help us to always say yes to you. Walk with us every minute of every day. Carry us when times are tough. Help us to always keep our eyes focused on you. Give us strength to make decisions based on our faith in you.

Help us to see the possibilities each new day brings. Give us the zeal and anticipation of the New Year with every new month, new day, new minute, and new second of our lives.

O Heavenly Father, thank you. Thank you for the opportunities this New Year has in store for us. Help us to see the blessings, even in the roughest days. Help us to always view your amazing creations with gratitude.

Thank you for the blessing of each sunrise and sunset, a mountain breeze, the sound of a rushing waterfall, the warm sand underfoot along a beach. Thank you for family, friends and companion animals. Thank you for all the doors you open for us; even the ones we might not see at first. Thank you for the many blessings you bestow upon us this year and every year.

Bless our soldiers as they find their way home, be with the ones still on foreign soils and bring them home safely, be with our Nation Father, impress upon our officials the need for you, impress upon them that without you we shall fall.

I pray this in the name of your beloved Son, my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

I came across this and felt it most perfect for tonights message. I love each of you, I appreciate each of you and I look forward to sharing many prayers, may miracles and many moments in God's presence with you. Be safe all!!!

Keeping it in Focus

"There is no place where God is not. God is there in a thousand wonders, upholding rocky barriers, filling the buttercups with their perfume and refreshing the lonely pines with the breath of his mouth. Descend…into the lowest depths of the ocean, where undisturbed water sleeps, and the very sand is motionless in unbroken quiet, but the glory of the Lord is there, revealing its excellence in the silent palace of the sea. Borrow the wings of the morning and fly to the uttermost parts of the sea, but God is there."

His beauty is stamped in all of creation:
The glory of God can be seen
from the smallest raindrop
to the mighty flash of lightning;
from the tiny rosebud
to the huge magnolia blossom;
from the rich, fertile soil of the Mississippi Delta
to the arid, dusty land of the desert.
We can see His stamp of glory in all the world,
from the music of a sparkling brook
to the majestic tumbling waterfall;
from the gnarled, gentle hands of a loving grandfather
to the birth-fresh fragility of a baby’s fingernail;
from the silence of the stars to the peal of thunder;
from the mirror-like smoothness of a placid lake
to the wind-driven thunderous waves smashing on the shore.

In the fresh greenery of the spring; in the dazzling color of autumn; in the joy of discovery on a baby’s face; and in the fulfillment and meaning of the New Birth, we can see the glory of God.
Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Just P.U.S.H..

Good morning and happy Friday! I can hardly believe that in just 2 days it will be 2012. This year has blown by, I pray it has been a good one for you and now that you are ready to venture into whatever it is that God has waiting for you on your next phase!

In prayer this morning I ask you to pray for a very special friend who has just called and is headed to the ER, asking God to allow the doctors knowledge to finally find out what is going on with her and for her to be healed. I asked God to continue blessing each of you, to answer prayers that you have been praying and to allow us all to feel His strength when we feel weak, and His overwhelming love when we feel alone. Lead us Father, guide us, and always walk beside us. I asked special prayer for all who are battling illness and disease that the pain in your bodies will cease and that a miraculous healing take place. I thanked our Father for allowing us love of family and friends, for allowing me the blessing of word that I might be able to continue to lift prayer when there is need, that I might be the light that someone in the darkness needs today. I asked him to use me wherever I am needed with faith in me that I will not tire. I love you Heavenly Father and I thank you for the love you give to me, I saw it in the sunrise this morning, what a beautiful confirmation. I ask these mercies and graces in the name of my brother and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Good evening and happy Thursday, just a few more days and we can put this year to rest and begin a NEW one. I pray your day has been a good one, that you are filled with joy and that you are now able to take some YOU time and relax. It has been a good day for me, I am feeling stronger and have been able to be up more than not. I found out that my 1st  GRANDBABY is a BOY and he is healthy and will be here in late May. My daughter is in great health and is happy and much in love, what more could we wish for?

In prayer this night I asked God to bless each of you with your needs, to touch your hearts with answer to a question you have been asking and for you to feel his love and his compassion. I prayed to Him asking for peace of mind, calm of heart and comfort in body for each of us. I thanked him for the blessing of another day at getting things right and praising our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I asked him to allow me to touch the heart of someone in need of His light today and to bless me with the honor of being able to pray for and with those in need of special, specific blessings. I continued to ask mercy for my sisters father in law as he continues to battle with his health. I sat in quiet reflection of all of the emotions I have had in the last few days and asked Him to bless me with knowledge of what is going on with me, to bless me with understanding and patience in all things. I asked all of this in the name of Jesus our brother, our Lord and our Savior. Amen.

"A Year of Time"

Steven B. Cloud,

Pulpit Helps, Vol. 14, # 2

…Though even thinking on the subject of time may prove discomforting, it is not a bad idea—especially at the beginning of a new year.

As we look into 2012 we look at a block of time. We see 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8,760 hours, 525,600 minutes, 31,536,000 seconds. And all is a gift from God. We have done nothing to deserve it, earn it, or purchased it. Like the air we breathe, time comes to us as a part of life.

The gift of time is not ours alone. It is given equally to each person. Rich and poor, educated and ignorant, strong and weak—every man, woman and child has the same twenty-four hours every day.

Another important thing about time is that you cannot stop it. There is no way to slow it down, turn it off, or adjust it. Time marches on.

And you cannot bring back time. Once it is gone, it is gone. Yesterday is lost forever. If yesterday is lost, tomorrow is uncertain. We may look ahead at a full year's block of time, but we really have no guarantee that we will experience any of it.

Obviously, time is one of our most precious possessions. We can waste it. We can worry over it. We can spend it on ourselves. Or, as good stewards, we can invest it in the kingdom of God.

The new year is full of time. As the seconds tick away, will you be tossing time out the window, or will you make every minute count?

~~Recipe for a NEW YEAR~~

Good evening, I apologize for not having a morning post nor my lunchtime food for thought, I found to day that I have had the stomach flu or medically termed the norovirus gastroenteritis. I promise you it is not a fun time in the old city! My Wayde is still in bed on day number 3 and I have been from the bed to the couch to the bed again. I am sorry to say I had to miss out on one of the most important things I have ever been invited to do, I was supposed to get to see my unborn grandbaby on sonogram tomorrow and me and only me was going to get to know the sex and not share this with my daughter or her hubby until Feb 4th for a birthday present to her. This sickness has not only cost us extra money for but also would have been to dangerous for me to be with her, I would have been in fear of passing it on to her or Derek or both. So my heart is broken and I cannot seem to stop the flow of tears! I know all things happen for a reason, I just wish I knew what the reason is.

In prayer this evening I asked God to bless me and mine with health, I asked Him to wrap his arms around me and hold me as I sit and weep over missing the special day tomorrow and I ask him to bless my baby with her thoughts being laid calm regarding the health of her baby! I asked God to continue to bless each of you with his love, his peace, his calm and his comfort. I asked God to hold my sister's father in law in his loving arms, to comfort him as he is going through his physical medical struggles and if it be His will to wax him strong enough to pull through and make a full recovery, if it be His will to call him home, to comfort him, to ease any fear he may have and to surround him with all of those who have gone before him to include his beautiful wife. Father comfort his family and bless them with calm and comfort as they stand in wait. I ask all of the blessings and mercies in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen

I came across this sweet little recipe for a Happy New Year and thought it was one to share,  hope that you enjoy it and I pray that you will take it and use it in your new year!

Recipe for a Happy New Year
  Anonymous

Take twelve fine, full-grown months; see that these are thoroughly free from old memories of bitterness, rancor and hate, cleanse them completely from every clinging spite; pick off all specks of pettiness and littleness; in short, see that these months are freed from all the past—have them fresh and clean as when they first came from the great storehouse of Time. Cut these months into thirty or thirty-one equal parts. Do not attempt to make up the whole batch at one time (so many persons spoil the entire lot this way) but prepare one day at a time.

Into each day put equal parts of faith, patience, courage, work (some people omit this ingredient and so spoil the flavor of the rest), hope, fidelity, liberality, kindness, rest (leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad dressing— don’t do it), prayer, meditation, and one well-selected resolution. Put in about one teaspoonful of good spirits, a dash of fun, a pinch of folly, a sprinkling of play, and a heaping cupful of good humor.

Dancing with God

Good evening, and YES I am alive, I contracted some type of very nasty stomach virus Christmas night, missed an entire day yesterday as I could not even get out of bed for anything more that the bathroom and back to bed, I am just now able to sit up long enough to write this blog. Now unfortunately Wayde is affected and is doing poorly. Boy this is a bad dose of "gombuu" I pray that the holiday has been a more healthful one than ours and that you are now looking forward to the NEW YEAR festivities!

I prayer this evening I ask each of you to say a little prayer for our household, for a healing that will take over quickly and allow the both of us to be well. I pray that each of you had a magical Christmas and that you felt the spirit of Jesus as you celebrated. I pray for each of you that there is peace in your heart, calm in your mind, and comfort in your bodies. I ask that you pray with me for my sister's father in law as he is struggling with healing after a most horrible fall. He is in the hospital and not doing well. I ask our Father in heaven to bless him with healing if it be his will, to keep him from feeling pain and to hold him in his lap and comfort him each step of the way. Father he is such a wonderful spirit, a obedient son and a perfect mentor for his own sons, bless him with his next stage of life. I ask our heavenly Father to bless all who are suffering, for all that are struggling and for all that are in need of blessings. In the name of Jesus I ask these favors. Amen.

Dancing with God

Source Unknown

When I meditated on the word Guidance, I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word. I remember reading that doing God’s will is a lot like dancing.

When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn’t flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.

When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music.

One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing lightly in one direction or another.

It’s as if two become one body, moving beautifully. The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

My eyes drew back to the word Guidance. When I saw "G" I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i". "God," "u" and "i" dance." God, you and I dance.

As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust that I would get guidance about my life. Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

My prayer for you today is that God’s blessings and mercies be upon you on this day and everyday.

May you abide in God as God abides in you.

Dance together with God, trusting God to lead and to guide you through each season of your life.

"You changed my mourning into dancing…"
Ps 30:12

~~A CHRISTmas prayer for BABY JESUS~~

As the festivities get under way I wanted to take a moment to wish you the happiest and most love filled Christmas day ever. May God continue to bless you and yours with his unconditional love, with answered prayers and with a shield of protection, keeping you safe from the evils of this world. I love each of you and wish for you sheer happiness and joy.

I came across this prayer and wanted to share it with you this morning, it says it all! God bless you with peace in heart, calm in mind and comfort in body. Happy Birthday Jesus!

~~A CHRISTmas Prayer for Baby Jesus~~

Lord Jesus, on this Christmas Day to celebrate Your birth we remember this:

You denied Yourself and left Your familiar surrounding of a heavenly Kingdom where You were worshipped and adored by angelic beings, seraphim and cherubim. The elders and living creatures surrounded You and continually sang praises to You. Lamb of God, we raise our voice on this occasion to praise and worship You this day.

God the Father and the Holy Spirit’s love was so strong there---that it illuminated that Great Place. There, You had glory, honor, power, and a Kingdom of peace. You willingly left it all behind so You could be a missionary in a foreign land called the Earth. Lamb of God, we raise our voice to thank You for Your sacrifice on this day.

You allowed Yourself to be born in a humble stall amidst the domestic beasts of the Earth. You came in such haste, that You were wrapped in swaddling clothes and placed in a manger. Lamb of God, we raise our voice on this occasion to thank You for displaying for us what humility is.

Your message was so urgent that God placed a bright and shining star in the East, so that men would see the sign that You had arrived. Lamb of God, we raise our voice on this occasion to thank the shepherds and wise men that witnessed Your birth historically for our sake.

An angel and the great company of the heavenly host praised God and announced this awesome event. Shepherds of the field visited You and rejoiced at Your Presence. Wise Magi brought offerings of their treasures to present to You. They were overjoyed as they bowed down to worship. Lamb of God, we raise our voice on this occasion to bow down and worship You for Your redemption of mankind.

Lamb of God, we recall and recognize that You have shown man Your great love. We thank You this day as we gather with other Christians throughout the world in memory of Your birth. May our prayer and honor please You this day. May this day be set aside as holy and pleasing to You, through Your Holy name. Amen

"And for the first time, I truly Prayed....."

Good evening my friends, one more day almost done, one day closer to the Big Birthday Party. I pray your day has been a good one and that you are now taking some needed YOU time.

In prayer this night I prayed my usual prayers with fervor and humility, asking God to bless each of you  with peace, calm, comfort, understanding, compassion and LOVE. I asked him to continue to heal those who are suffering so with sickness, to bless my daughter's Poppa as he begins his rehab from the stroke he had this week, I asked God to continue to bless my daughter and my unborn grandchild, and to allow her to know that no matter the sufferings you go through with pregnancy the reward will outshine it. I thanked him for all he does for me and mine, for the ups and downs and for always forgiving me and making a way for me. I asked all of these things in the name of Jesus Christ our beautiful savior. Amen

I invite you to leave comments and if you have any prayer request we stand ready to pray with/for you. Praying is an honor and a privilege to us!

I came across the following and began to week, by the time I got tot he end of it I felt as if I were the one being talked to.

A LOVE STORY

One day, I woke early in the morning to watch the sunrise. Ah the beauty of God’s creation is beyond description. As I watched, I praised God for His beautiful work. As I sat there, I felt the Lord’s presence with me.

He asked me, “Do you love me?”

I answered, “Of course, God! You are my Lord and Savior!”

Then He asked, “If you were physically handicapped, would you still love me?”

I was perplexed. I looked down upon my arms, legs and the rest of my body and wondered how many things I wouldn’t; be able to do, the things that I took for granted.

And I answered, “It would be tough Lord, but I would still love You.”

Then the Lord said, “If you were blind, would you still love my creation?” How could I love something without being able to see it? Then I thought of all the blind people in the world and how many of them still loved God and His creation.

So I answered, “Its hard to think of it, but I would still love you.”

The Lord then asked me, “If you were deaf, would you still listen to my word?” How could I listen to anything being deaf?

Then I understood. Listening to God’s Word is not merely using our ears, but our hearts.

I answered, “It would be tough, but I would still listen to Your word.”

The Lord then asked, “If you were mute, would you still praise My Name?”

How could I praise without a voice? Then it occurred to me: God wants us to sing from our very heart and soul. It never matters what we sound like. And praising God is not always with a song, but when we are persecuted, we give God praise with our words of thanks.

So I answered, “Though I could not physically sing, I would still praise Your Name.”

And the Lord asked, “Do you really love Me?”

With courage and a strong conviction, I answered boldly, “Yes Lord! I love You because You are the one and true God!”

I thought I had answered well, but God asked, “THEN WHY DO YOU SIN?”

I answered, “Because I am only human. I am not perfect.”

“THEN WHY IN TIMES OF PEACE DO YOU STRAY THE FURTHEST? WHY ONLY IN TIMES OF TROUBLE DO YOU PRAY THE EARNEST?”

No answers. Only tears.

The Lord continued: “Why only sing at fellowships and retreats? Why seek Me only in times of worship? Why ask things so selfishly? Why ask things so unfaithfully?”

The tears continued to roll down my cheeks.

“Why are you ashamed of Me? Why are you not spreading the good news? Why in times of persecution, you cry to others when I offer My shoulder to cry on? Why make excuses when I give you opportunities to serve in My Name?”

I tried to answer, but there was no answer to give.

“You are blessed with life. I made you not to throw this gift away. I have blessed you with talents to serve Me, but you continue to turn away. I have revealed My Word to you, but you do not gain in knowledge. I have spoken to you but your ears were closed. I have shown My blessings to you, but your eyes were turned away. I have sent you servants, but you sat idly by as they were pushed away. I have heard your prayers and I have answered them all.”

DO YOU TRULY LOVE ME ?”

I could not answer. How could I? I was embarrassed beyond belief. I had no excuse. What could I say to this? My heart had cried out and the tears had flowed, I said, Please forgive me Lord. I am unworthy to be Your child.”

The Lord answered, ” That is My Grace, My child.”

I asked, ” Then why do you continue to forgive me? Why do You love me so?”

The Lord answered, “Because you are My creation. You are my child. I will never abandon you. When you cry, I will have compassion and cry with you. When you shout with joy, I will laugh with you. When you are down, I will encourage you. When you fall, I will raise you up. When you are tired, I will carry you. I will be with you till the end of days, and I will love you forever.”

Never had I cried so hard before. How could I have been so cold? How could I have hurt God as I had done?

I asked God, “How much do You love me?”

The Lord stretched out His arms, and I saw His nail-pierced hands. I bowed down at the feet of Christ, my Saviour. And for the first time, I truly prayed.

" I Never Liked My Grandpa!"

Good evening and happy Thursday night, I pray it has been a great day for you, one closer to the birthday celebration of Jesus! I know the hustle and bustle of this time is sometimes overwhelming, I pray you take some time for you during this time and that you take time to really think about the reason for the season and share it with your children!

In prayer this night I bowed my head and humbly asked for God to bless each of you with love and happiness, to take the struggles you have been battling and replace them with calm and peace, to take any pains you may be having and replace them with comfort. I asked him to watch over each of you, to keep you behind his shield of protection and to hear and answer each of your prayers. I asked for special blessings for those waiting for test results that have been run this week, to bless each of you who are living in fear of answers to questions with positive outcomes, to hold each of you who are overwhelmed, and give you rest. I ask you to favor a sweet friend who is having surgery in the morning that the surgeon's hand will be blessed with skill and precision and that she come through the surgery with no incident. I ask you Father to continue to bless my sweet daughter and her unborn child with health. Father I come to you with love in my heart and ask for mercy, blessings and favor in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

I NEVER LIKED MY GRANDPA

After I finished reading this one, I knew I had to pass it on. Some times we never know if the love we show to others is really getting through or not. But God’s love always does.

It is easy to love those who love you back, but the true test of love is to love those that hate you or you do not like.

He never seemed to care about me. But for some reason, I had to see him one more time.

He sat slouched and alone next to his ashtray in the smoke-filled living room. The television droned on, flickering in the gloom. The shades were drawn. Only thin slivers of light pierced in from the outside world. And every once in a while, he would say the kids oughta shut up and go somewhere else to play.

Not exactly your ideal grandfather.

My parents told us about Grandpa’s hunting and fishing days. I saw photos of the deer, the mounted bass on the wall, even the bear rug upstairs, and I wished he’d take me out fishing or teach me to hunt. But he rarely left the couch. So my brother, my sister, and I pretty much stayed clear of the living room and explored the rest of the old house.

Back in those days, I noticed that Grandpa stayed behind when we went to church. When he said Jesus’ name, he wasn’t praying. And he told dirty jokes. And nobody ever told him it was wrong.

Since they didn’t, I decided I would.

My teacher at my Christian school helped me write the note. I wrote that God didn’t like it when he said those things, but that God loved him, and so did Jesus and so did I. And I wanted him to go to heaven, but he needed to believe in Jesus first.

I slipped the note under Grandpa’s pillow as we were leaving one day. Yeah, I was pretty naive, but I didn’t know what else to do. Because deep down, I cared about him.

A few days later Grandma called. She said Grandpa had found my note. My excitement didn’t last very long, though. Grandma said the note had made him worse. She said, “I’ll have to start over trying to get him to go to church.”

Why would my note make him worse? I’d thought I was doing the right thing, but now I felt rotten. For a long time I didn’t want to tell people about Jesus for fear of “making things worse.”

Whenever we’d visit after that, I’d give Grandpa this awkward sideways hug and ask him what he was watching. He’d grumble something about a fishing show, and that was it. We didn’t even make eye contact. I never knew what more to say. I wished there was something, anything to talk about.

So we grew further and further apart. But I kept thinking of him. And I prayed for him. Despite everything, I still cared about him.

Slipping away

About that time, Grandpa realized he was dying of cancer.

He kept getting weaker and weaker. No more smoking. No more leaving the house. Grandma spent all her time taking care of him, shuffling him from the bed to the couch to the bathroom. She read devotions to him. A local pastor started to visit him.

I don’t really know what was going through Grandpa’s head. Maybe Grandma’s devotions were making a difference. Maybe we just liked to think that they were.

And then one day Grandma told us that Grandpa believed in Jesus. “We pray together,” she said. “He listens to devotions and takes the Lord’s Supper.”

Months slipped away. I didn’t visit Grandpa much anymore because I was so busy with school. Grandma took care of him as long as she could, but finally he had to go to a nursing home.

I couldn’t remember ever looking him in the eye and telling him I loved him. But I wanted to.

It really hurt Grandma to see him suffer. But she was glad that as the cancer grew, so did Grandpa’s interest in God. So I decided to visit him again. I’m still not sure why it was so important for me to go. I couldn’t remember anything kind he’d ever done or said to me. But he was my grandpa, you know? Maybe I just needed to see him again before he died. Maybe I wanted to know that my note years before hadn’t made him worse.

I never liked my Grandpa, and I never would. Yet for as long as I could remember, I had struggled to love him. And somehow I had to tell him.

Tough love

“You still work at that Bible camp?” he grunted without looking at me from his wheelchair.

“Yeah,” I said.

“Do you fish?”

“No, not too much.”

A long, uncomfortable pause.

“Still driving that car? That-”

“Honda? Yeah.”

Back and forth we talked until all of a sudden it was time to go and nothing had been said.

I stood up awkwardly. Someone came over to wheel him away for supper.

But before they could, I blurted out, “Before I go, could we pray?” Without really waiting for an answer, I shut my eyes and started to pray aloud, right there in the lobby of the nursing home. It wasn’t pretty. But I meant it. It was my first and only prayer with my grandfather.

Then I said “amen” and I looked up.

He was crying. I took his hand and told him I loved him. Then I watched as they wheeled him slowly down the hall.

I don’t know if he even remembered the note I wrote. But I don’t feel guilty about writing it anymore. Telling people about God’s love never makes them worse. Sometimes it makes them uneasy, sometimes it shakes them up, sometimes it even makes them angry. But sometimes, it might just put them on the road to getting better.

Grandpa died soon afterward. Pretty peacefully, I guess. Grandma had been sitting with him. She stepped into the other room, he closed his eyes and slipped into a coma. Forty-five minutes later his journey was over.

When God tells us to love people, I’m glad he didn’t say we had to like them. It’s just way too hard to like some people. But to love them? Yeah, it’s tough, but with God’s help, I can do it. I know that, because I’ve done it.

Love the Unlovable?

We’ve all got people in our lives that we just don’t like very much.

Maybe for you, like Steven, it’s a grandparent or another family member who just isn’t very much fun to be around. Or maybe it’s that guy in homeroom who drives you crazy with his need to be right – all the time.

As Christians, we’re not only called to love those we like, but even those we don’t like (Luke 6:35; Romans 12:9-17). When we show love to a person who doesn’t show love back, it hurts. But people who shy away from being loved are often the ones who need it the most. Maybe they never learned how to show love. Maybe they can’t understand why we would love them despite how they’ve treated us. It seems there’s a tough shell that has formed around their hearts that doesn’t allow love to come in or out. But don’t underestimate God’s power to break through that shell, just like he did with Steven’s grandfather.

God gives us numerous insights in his Word about love and our responsibility to love others. Here are a few:

Love your enemies (Matthew 5:43-44).
Love others as you love yourself (Mark 12:31).
Love with your life (Ephesians 5:1-2).
Love with patience, kindness and more (1 Corinthians 13:3-8).
Love like Christ loved (Philippians 2:2).
Love others because God first loved us (1 John 4:11-12).

In learning to love people we don’t like, we should keep in mind that we don’t even deserve God’s love – but he loves us anyway. God loves the unloveable, and we should try to imitate that.

Here are some practical ways to do that:

Think before you speak. It’s a lot easier to lash out at someone who offends or irritates you than to give them a word of encouragement…or not say anything at all.

Put yourself in their shoes. Try to look at life from their perspective. Maybe they come from a difficult home life, or maybe they’re trying to overcome some major hurdles. Empathize with that person, and try to understand what he or she might be going through.

Don’t give up. Steven kept pursuing his grandpa’s love, even by sending him a note. His honesty might have made his grandpa uncomfortable, but that didn’t stop him from sharing about God’s love. His persistence eventually led to a breakthrough where his grandpa showed signs of love through the tears in his eyes.

Pray for that person. Pray that God will change their heart and yours as well, as he helps you see them through his eyes. Remember to always (P.U.S.H.) Pray Until Something Happens.

may all of YOUR prayers be answered!!

Good morning and happy Monday, love this day and use it wisely for it will never pass your way again. That is how I look at things, I am going to get the best I can out of every day because at the stroke of midnight it will be gone to me forever!

In prayer this morning as I sat bundled up against the cold but not wanting to come inside for fear of missing out on the beauty of the sunrise, the sun coming over the top of the mountain and hearing the sound of the world waking up. I bundled and let my thoughts drift to heaven, I found myself chatting with Heavenly Father and soon realized that I was in tears. Some days I am so overcome with having a personal relationship with the Almighty! It is so awesome to know that I can go to him with all of my thoughts all of my actions and he is understanding and does not judge me. It humbles me to know that I  can mess up, really mess up and God forgives me,  if I ask with true intent and if I make point to never make that mistake again, I know he will forgive me. God you awe me, and I thank you for the blessings in my life. I asked God to bless each of you with his never ending love, with his abundant understanding and with angels to touch your hearts today and relieve any stress and drama you might have. I asked him to bless each of us with happiness in our hearts and with love in all that we do. I asked him to bless the sick and suffering and to remember my sweet friend with pneumonia. I asked him to lead and shield us from any harm that may be lurking around us. I ask these mercies and these blessing in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Matt 7:7-8
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

May all your Prayers be answered.
(May 27, 2003):

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island.

The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agreed that they had no other recourse but to pray to God.

However, to determine whose prayers should be most effective, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food.

The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man's parcel of land remained barren.

After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island, there was nothing.

Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day, like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still had nothing.

Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife could leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of the island and boarded the ship with his wife.

Since none of the other man’s prayers had been answered, he considered him unworthy to receive God's blessings, so he decided to leave the second man on the island.

As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, "Why are you leaving your companion on the island?"

"My blessings are a result of my faith and prayers, since I was the one who prayed for them," the first man answered. "His prayers were all unanswered and so I figured he does not deserve anything."

"You are sorely mistaken, and are in great debt to him.”

“How’s that?” the first man asked.

”It was his great faith that invoked the blessings, and he prayed that all your prayers might be answered."

Are our blessings the fruits of our prayers and work alone, or of those of another praying for us? What (and who) are you praying for?

With obedience come blessings. May all your righteous prayers be answered.

Out of the mouths of babes come PRAYERS that are so pure!

Good evening, I apologize for being so late with my blog tonight, I had to take some medicine earlier and guess it really knocked me out. I am just now waking from a long nap! I pray your day has been a good one and that you are now home, fed and ready to relax and rest!

In prayer this evening I prayed my normal nightly prayers, asking God for peace, calm and comfort and to continue to allow us freedoms in speaking His name and worshipping Him. I asked Him to bless all who are struggling with illness and disease, that you might be comforted with His love and filled with will by His strength. I pray for all who are battling depression, addiction, financial woes, relationship issues, troubles with your children, lack of faith and for those who seem to be in the darkness. God promised us when He gave His only son that He would never step away from us or let us fail as long as we continue to seek Him and reach our hands out to Him. If you are feeling as if He is not with you are you reaching for Him? Father bless us with your never ending love and with your grace and mercy. In the name of Christ our savior. Amen.

My little story tonight is one that is not so far from things my little G~babe prays, she too is 4 and never denies a chance to get to bless our meals, for Thanksgiving dinner she asked my permission if she could say "the grace" when it was time to each. She is an amazing little prayer and when she is done you know you have been prayed for! Out of the mouths of babes and oh to be that pure and faith filled!

Victoria's Prayer

A couple weeks ago, I heard what I think was one of the most beautiful prayers of my life. A group of friends had gathered, and before we ate, someone asked Victoria if she would like to lead in the prayer.

Victoria is barely 4 years old, and she hesitated at first. But with a little coaxing from her Mom, she agreed to it.

As she bowed her head to pray, her demeanor and the words she said showed what a child-like faith is really like. Her prayer was a wonderful example of what it is like to pray believing that God hears our prayers, that He is all-powerful, that He loves us and wants to meet our needs, and that He will answer when we call on Him in the name of Jesus. Of these things, Victoria was certain, even if she couldn't articulate it like an adult.

There were apparently three things that she wanted to talk to God about in that moment. The first was that she was glad she was about to eat. The second was that her grandmother had cancer, and that she was going to soon have a surgery to try to remove the cancerous tissue. Doctors didn't give her a good chance of recovery, though, as it was a "fast-growing" kind of cancer. The third thing on Victoria's mind was a missionary named Gretchen, who had spoken at our church not long ago. Gretchen's plea to the church to pray for the salvation of the people of India where she and her husband are missionaries penetrated Victoria's heart, if it escaped the adults in attendance.

Here's what Victoria said, in her four-year-old language to God in that moment: "Dear God, Thank You for this food. And thank You for Nana. And please make the bad stuff come out of her soon. And pray for Miss Gretchen. And the people up in India that You would forgive them. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Then she opened her eyes, smiled, and started eating. Everything was taken care of. The simplicity of a four-year-old's faith and prayer had dealt with the complex problems of the world she was in. I think I'll remember Victoria's prayer for a long time.

By the way, Victoria's grandmother had that surgery three days ago. The doctors were baffled. They couldn't find any cancer and are wondering what on earth happened.

Family traditions..for generations to come!!!

Good evening and happy Wednesday night, as I sit there this evening reading short stories to share with you I realize that I am an emotional boob this evening. With each story that I read I found myself crying! I pray your day has been a great one and that you are now settled in for a nice cozy rest and relaxing time at home with your loves!

I sat in quiet solitude this evening in a deep conversation with my Father in Heaven, it seems this week that many of the stories I have read have been based on the basics of family and CHRISTmas and on tradition, as I was reflecting on them I realized that this is something I am in need of mentioning. I have read several really cute family traditions that are taking place since December began, and I love, love, love it! The Ashley family had a pretty wonderful Christmas eve tradition and while I was sitting and reminiscing I found myself in tears once again! I miss my family very much, especially this time of the year, it was wonderful having so many brothers and sisters to share in the excitement! I pray that when my child has her baby and she and her sweet (soon to be) husband celebrate that they will instill traditions into baby's life...they are so very important and give us something to cling to, to smile about and to cry over when we are older. Children don't think they are making memories but as we all know as we get older that is all that we have is our memories. Tonight I ask you to join me in prayer in asking our  Father to bless those who are in the darkness and to cling to the promise in Psalms 112:4, he will never leave us in the darkness if we have faith in him. I ask you to join me in praying for the ones suffering illness and disease, for the ones coming through surgery, rehabilitation, addiction, depression, financial problems, children issues, and loss of faith. We all can use a prayer or two so please do pray for me and my family. I ask God to provide for us~~ peace~~ in our heart that we be able to love as Jesus wants us to, not thinking only of ourselves but of all, calm in mind that we might spend our days worry free and find it easier to keep satan at bay, and comfort in our body that we might be pain free and be able to enjoy the CHRISTmas holidays. I ask these blessings, favors and mercies in the name of Jesus Christ our savior. Amen.

Tonight's story is one that is very heart touching, I hope you are touched and remember to make some traditions!!!

The Red Envelope

Slice. Scoop. Plop. I don't feel like doing this. Slice. Scoop. Plop. I don't want to do this. I don't want to shop . . . Slice. Scoop. Plop. I don't want to decorate. I just want to skip it . . . Slice. Scoop. Plop. And pretend I didn't notice this year.

I plopped the last of the ready-made cookie dough onto the cookie sheet and shoved it into the oven. These standard-issue chocolate chip cookies would be a far cry from the bejeweled affairs I'd baked for 26 years, but the only reason I'd even summoned the effort was because my youngest son, Ross, had opened and reopened the cookie jar four times the previous night, saying with 14-year-old tact, "What? No Christmas cookies this year?"

A big piece of the family was now missing-or hadn't anybody noticed?

Since today was the 23rd, and his older siblings, Patrick and Molly, would be arriving Christmas Eve, Ross informed me that they would be "big-time disappointed" if there wasn't "cool stuff" to eat. This from the same kid who had never watched a Christmas TV special in his life and had to be dragged into the family photo for the annual Christmas card. I never considered a family picture this year. A big piece of the family was now missing-or hadn't anybody noticed?

The First Christmas

All my friends had been telling me the same thing since the day of the funeral: "Pam, the first year after you lose your husband is the hardest. You have to go through the first Valentine's Day without him, the first birthday, the first anniversary . . ." They hadn't been kidding. What they hadn't told me was that Christmas was going to top them all in hard-to-take.

It wasn't that Tom had loved Christmas that much. He'd always complained that the whole thing was too commercial and that when you really thought about it, Easter was a much more important celebration in the church. The phone rang. Molly was calling collect from the road. She and two dorm buddies were driving home after finals.

"Do you know what I'm looking forward to?" she said.

"Sleeping for 72 straight hours?" I said.

"No." She sounded a little deflated. "Coming home from Christmas Eve services and seeing all those presents piled up under the tree. It's been years since I've cared what was in them or how many were for me-I just like seeing them there. How weird is that?

"Not weird at all, my love, I thought. I sighed, took a piece of paper, and penciled in a few gift ideas for Ross; Molly; Patrick; his wife, Amy; my grandson, Shane.

A Sense of Normalcy

And then I snapped the pencil down on the counter. A part of me understood that the kids were in denial. Tom's sudden death 11 months earlier had left them bewildered and scared. And now at Christmas, their shock was translated into exaggerated enthusiasm.

The Cobb family Christmas traditions provided a sense of normalcy for them. Patrick had even asked me last week if I still had the old John Denver Christmas album. But as far as I was concerned, there just wasn't that much to deck the halls about. Tom was gone. I was empty and unmotivated. At worst, I wished they'd all just open the presents and carve the turkey without me.

When the oven dinged, I piled two dozen brown circles on a plate and left a note for Ross: I don't want to hear any more complaining! Gone shopping. I love you. Mom.

The complaining, however, went on in my head as I elbowed my way through the mob at the mall. Tom was right, I thought. This is all a joke.

It really was everything he hated-canned music droning its false merriment, garish signs luring me to buy, tired-looking families dragging themselves around, worrying about their credit card limits as they snapped at their children.

Funny, I thought while gazing at a display of earrings I knew Molly wouldn't wear. All the time Tom was here pointing this out to me, it never bothered me. Now it's all I can see. I abandoned the earring idea and took to wandering the mall, hoping for inspiration so Molly would have something to look at under the tree. It wasn't going to be like years past-I should have told her that. She wasn't going to see a knee-deep collection of exquisitely wrapped treasures that Tom always shook his head over.

"You've gone hog-wild again," he would always tell me-before adding one more contribution. Instead of buying me a gift, he'd write a check in my name to Compassion International or a local food pantry, place it in a red envelope, and tuck it onto a branch of our Christmas tree. "This is a true Christ-gift," he'd tell me. "It's a small demonstration that Christ is real in our lives."

I stopped in mid-mall, lettings the crowds swirl past me. Tom wasn't there, a fact that the rest of the family didn't want to face or discuss. But he could still be with us, maybe just a little.

Christmas Decorating

I left the mall and quickly found a Christmas tree lot. The man looked happy to unload one very dry tree for half price. He even tied it to my roof rack. Then it was off to Safeway, where I bought a 24-pound Butterball and all the trimmings. Back home, the decoration boxes weren't buried too deeply in the garage. I'd barely gotten them put away last year when Tom had his heart attack.

I was still sorting boxes when Ross emerged from the kitchen, munching the last of the two dozen cookies.

"Oh, I thought we weren't going to have a tree this year," he said between mouthfuls.

"Well, we are. Can you give me a hand getting it up?"

Two hours later, Ross and I stood back and admired our Christmas tree. The lights winked softly as I straightened a misshapen glittery angel Molly had made in second-grade and Ross' first-birthday Christmas ball. I wanted to cry.

Christmas Eve

The house sprang to life when everyone arrived Christmas Eve. In the middle of our church service, however, my spirits sagged. There was no lonelier feeling than standing in the midst of one's family singing "Silent Night" -surrounded by a vivacious college daughter; a sweet, gentle daughter-in-law; a handsome, successful 25-year-old son; a wide-eyed, mile-a-minute 3-year-old grandson; and an awkward teenager whose hugs were like wet shoelaces-and be keenly aware that someone was missing. Back at home, everyone continued to avoid the subject.

"The tree is gorgeous, Mom," Molly said. She knelt down and began hauling gifts out of a shopping bag to add to my pile.

"I love what you did with the wrappings, Pam," Amy said. "You're always so creative."

"I forgot to buy wrapping paper," I told her. "I had to use newspaper."

It was Christmas as usual-easier to pretend everything was normal than deal with harsh reality. Ross and Patrick sparred over whose stocking was whose, and Shane parked himself in front of a bowl of M&Ms. They all got to open the customary one present on Christmas Eve, and after doing so, we schlepped off to bed. It was Christmas as usual-easier to pretend everything was normal than deal with harsh reality.

But there was one more thing that had to be done. I went over to Tom's desk, found a red envelope in the top drawer, and stuck into it a check made out to the American Heart Association. It seemed appropriate. "I know the kids-and even I-have to go on with our lives, Tom," I whispered. "But I wish you were here." It occurred to me as I tucked the red envelope midway up the tree that one of the kids would say, "Oh, yeah-I remember he always did that."

And then there would be an awkward silence and perhaps sheepish looks. I hoped so.

Christmas Day

Morning-or at least dawn-came way too soon. Shane was up before the paper carrier. I dragged myself into the kitchen and found it already smelling like a Seattle coffee house.

"This is what we drink at school," Molly told me and handed me a cup.

"Is anyone else awake?" I asked.

She nodded her head, and for the first time I noticed a twinkle in her eye that was unprecedented for this hour of the morning.

"What are you up to?" I said.

"Mom!" Patrick yelled from the living room. "You've got to see this!"

"At this hour of the . . ."

What I saw was my family perched on the couch like a row of deliciously guilty canaries. What I saw next was our Christmas tree, dotted with bright red envelopes.

"Man, it got crowded in here last night," Ross said. "I came down here about 2 o'clock and freaked Amy out."

"I almost called 911 when I came down," Patrick said. "Till I saw it was Molly and not some burglar."

I had never heard a thing. I walked over to the tree and touched each one of the five envelopes I hadn't put there.

"Open them, Mom," Molly said. "This was always the best part of Christmas."

>From Patrick, there was a check for Youth for Christ, to help kids go on missions trips like the one Dad supported him on to Haiti five years earlier.

>From Amy, a check to our church for sheet music, because some of her best memories of her father-in-law were of him helping the children's choir.

>From Molly, several $20 bills for the local crisis pregnancy center, because many of the women who go there have probably never experienced the love of a husband like Daddy," she said.

>From Ross, a $20 bill for a local drug program for kids, "since Dad was all freaked out about me staying clean."

The last envelope was lumpy. When I opened it, a handful of change spilled out. "Mine, Gamma," Shane said, his little bow-mouth pursed importantly. Amy finished his thought. "He wants this to go to the animal shelter-you know, for lost dogs, like the one he visited with Dad just before he died."

I pulled all the envelopes against my chest and hugged them.

"You know what's weird?" Molly said. "I feel like Daddy's right here with us."

"Yeah, that's pretty weird," Ross said.

"But true," Patrick said. "I feel like he's been here this whole time. I thought I'd be all bummed out this Christmas-but I don't need to be."

"No, you don't, my love," I said. To myself, I added, Neither do I. I have my family, and I have Christ.

THE GREAT EARTHWORM RACE..are you tired or going in circles?

Good morning to each of you. Finally I slept, really, really, slept..maybe I will be back on track soon. I pray that this day has started on the right foot and that it will only get better and better as it progresses. I would like to shout out to my High School team who is but one step away from the state payoff game...Tonight they vie for that rite to play at Cowboy Stadium in Dallas Texas next week! I AM HOOPIN' AND HOLLERIN'here in Utah...GO NECKS...Lord be with each student, friend and family member as they make the journey to play tonight, be a shield of protection for our boy as they are on the field. I have seen that the other team is accustomed to hitting hard and playing dirty. Let the Roughnecks know that they do not have to join ranks with the other team to be winners. Bless each of them with grace and dignity and may the best team win based upon skill and not underhanded play!
In prayer this morning I asked God to bless each of us with mercy and grace, to wrap the weary in his arms and allow rest, to hold fast the ones who are stumbling and not let them fall, to give strength to the weak so that they can continue forward and to see out needs and show us a way for them to be met. I asked special specific prayer for the family whose loved one has had a stroke, that he might show signs of improvement each day and that the family hold strong as a unit and realize that you will never put more on them than they can handle father. They are a strong family and have always given help to so many in their community, allow them father to let others help them now! Father we had so many special prayers yesterday and I ask you to continue blessings for each one that has come and humbled themselves. Asking prayers for the Frazer family as they suffer the heartbreak of losing a loved one, bless each of them father with support, with love, and with understanding. I ask you Father to continue to love each of us, to hold each of us in your ams and to be the lighthouse each of us needs when we are lost in the darkness. In the name of Jesus Christ I ask mercy and favor this day. Amen.

As I always do, I came across a wonderful story to share today! I hope you enjoy it and that it touches a heart that is in need today!

THE GREAT EARTHWORM RACE

There's nothing more pathetic than a lost earthworm. Trust me. I know. My daughter Annie and I were walking down the long dirt road from our house to the street to pick up the paper Saturday morning when we spotted it.
The unlucky earthworm had crawled from the lush green grass at the edge onto the sandy surface of the road. You could trace his progress in the sand. He seemed headed across the road when he swerved. Maybe it was the slight rise and fall of the surface that threw him off, I don't know. But all at once he began to crawl in irregular circles. When we found him, the poor thing was thin and dry, covered with tiny grains of sand, in utter despair. Round and round he wriggled as the sun rose higher hastening the hour when his arch enemy--car tires--would find him naked and exposed. Swish, grind, and that would be all.

"Let's rescue him," I said to Annie. She gently lifted his grainy form from the road and deposited it gingerly in the safety of the tall grass at the side. What a way to begin a day. It makes you feel good deep inside to rescue a worm.

But there were others. Scores of others. Worm after hapless worm had made his way from the safety of the grass to the trackless desert of the road. Occasionally we'd find a fat, juicy worm just beginning his brave journey, blissfully unaware of the dangers ahead. Little did he know....

But we were there for them. I would look for the tell-tale circling track in the sand. "There's another," I would shout, and Annie would rush to the rescue site to lift yet another victim to safety. What would explain this great worm exodus? As we worked together as a finely-tuned mercy team, a theory began to unfold. There must have been some worm of a disk jockey on a late night station who had offered a prize for the worm who made it to the other side. That must be it!

But who would receive the prize? We began to look for that one worm winner who possessed that stamina, courage, and unerring sense of direction required for this daring expedition. Did this one make it, I would wonder as I traced his trail in the sand. No, here he starts to curve around. Invariably, one after another, the worms would lapse into circles, aimlessly crawling, going nowhere--rapidly at first, then slower and slower as their precious resources drained away.

We were almost back to the house when we found him, the worm who had bet against the odds and won. We traced his trail from one side of the road to the other. But no, he was within inches of the grass on the far side when he veered and began heading the wrong direction, back to where he came from, the "Wrong Way Carrigan" of the worm world.

I tell you no lie. It actually happened, though I can't vouch for the disk jockey part. But enough of grainy, bedraggled worms.

As Annie and I joked and rescued our way back to the house I thought of people I know. Where are we on our journey? Where are we going, anyway? Do we have a life goal, a destination, or are we just wandering?

A verse came to mind as I acted as chief worm-spotter: "I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you" (Psalm 32:8). If only those worms had air support--someone with perspective to radio down their position--they could make it.

And I thought of how desperately we need a Guide to show us the way across, a Rescuer who will pick us up, hopeless and lost though we may be, and gently deposit us on the other side. "Rescuer," you know means about the same as "Savior." Jesus is that Rescuer. He knows the way.

Are you tired of going round in circles, fighting fatigue and the fear of being squashed flat? Lift your weary head one more time and utter a faint worm-prayer. And then watch for your Rescuer. Look up! Look up!
